Trust is Our "YES to God!!!"

Updated: Apr 9, 2024

The key verse for our series in a Year of Trust 2024 is, "Then God said “I will bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars,” and Abraham said “YES.” --That’s TRUST.

Remember Last Week’s Sermon

Last week, we discussed the story of the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:32-34). We asked the question, "What did her trust look like?" As cool as her trust appeared in the story, she still had a plan and was in control. But we can’t fault her because we can relate. We often like to be in control and have a plan.

Yet, isn't it the very coolest thing that Jesus didn’t bring any judgment or condemnation with him? With that said, when it comes to you, how much control is in your trust of God? Or your plans for that matter?

This Week’s Sermon

This week's sermon focuses on the very next story in the Gospel of Mark chapter 5. The story of Jairus, the synagogue leader, whose daughter was dying (Mark 5:21-43). Jairus begged Jesus to come and heal his daughter. But when people came to tell Jairus his daughter was dead and he should not bother Jesus anymore, Jesus told Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

Jesus then revived Jairus’ daughter, astonishing everyone present. What did Jairus' faith or trust look like? Did he have a plan in mind as well? Yes, he did. Jesus had to come to his house and touch his daughter. But what got in the way of the plan? Jesus always gets in the way of our plans and control. That is the Good News. We have to ask ourselves what gets in the way of our plans and control.

Letting Go of Our Plans

When it comes to TRUST, let your plans go out the window! This is what I believe God is saying to us through these stories of Abraham, the Woman with issues of blood, and Jairus, and to you and me. Jesus is saying to you, “You must let go of your plans and be with Me for the RIDE. Placing your trust squarely on Me. Letting go of control, letting go of your expectations, all the things you thought, and all the ways you thought it was going to happen."

Now, you know how Abraham, the Woman with the issue of blood, and Jairus felt. Naked and honest before God. No fig leaves to hide behind. "She told him the whole truth!" Jesus told Jairus in the story, “Don’t be afraid, don’t shrink back and hide, stay here with me and just believe.”

Our Go-To Move

In the Greek, Jesus tells Jairus to just keep on trusting even if it doesn't feel good or feel like anything is happening. So, what's your signature (go-to) move when things don't go as planned? Do you hide? Be mad? Try a little harder? Get a better plan? Get busy? Or do you rest in Him and His love for you? Trust is letting go and believing in Him!

So, fill in the blank for the New Year, TRUST IS __________!!!
